SELECT WEANLING FUTURITY RULES

1. If stallion service sells, the stallion owner and mare owner both may enter one (1) foal in the Select Futurity. If a stallion service does not sell, stallion owner will not be eligible to nominate or show a foal in the Select Futurity. Publicity will be given to Stallion services sold and who purchased the service. ALL MARES MUST BE NOMINATED BY FEBRUARY 1ST OF THEIR FIRST YEAR OF ELIGIBILITY WHETHER THEY ARE OPEN OR IN FOAL. FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH THIS WILL RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION IN THE FOLLOWING YEAR. Mare owners must be a current paid up member in good standing of the South Dakota Paint Horse Club. You are considered owners if mare if immediate family owned. Immediate family is defined as parent, brother sister, grandparent or legal guardian. Mare would have to be nominated as Registered. In this case, the actual owner(s) must be a current paid up member in good standing of the SDPHC.

2. Anyone buying a stallion services may sell it, if desired, and the resulting foal is still eligible for the Select Futurity. If a stallion service is re-sold, notification of this sale must be submitted in writing by both parties to the Futurity Chairperson by December 31. If a mare is bred for the Select Futurity and comes up open, that slot cannot be sold, but a substitute mare may be used.

3. The stallion owner may sell his/her service for donating the stallion, with the understanding that he/she is no longer eligible for the Select Futurity for that service. Notification of this sale must be submitted in writing by both parties to the Futurity Chairperson by Dec. 31. The purchaser of this service must comply with all other requirements to be eligible to show the foal in this futurity. Any stallion owner refusing to have the stallion service a mare (as long as all stated mare requirements are met) will have to reimburse the SDPHC in the amount paid for the service. The stallion owner will relinquish their rights to show a foal in the Select Futurity and be suspended from the auction for the following year if they refuse to repay the stallion fee.

4. A stallion owner may donate the service of as many stallions as he desires to the auction. This would include multiple donations of an individual stallion.

The service of each donated stallion will be sold separately.

5. Payment of service fee is due immediately after the auction. All checks for the service fees are to be made payable to the South Dakota Paint Horse Club. Should the purchaser default on payment, the intent of the sale is there and is considered as a sold service. Therefore the stallion owner is eligible to nominate and show a foal in the Select Futurity.

6. The stallion auction will be held at the annual fall meeting. There will be a thirty-day grace period after the banquet for the purchase of any stallion service not sold at the annual auction.

7. There is no limit on the number of stallions donated at the Auction at the Annual Fall Meeting.

8. Mare owner will pay any required board care to stallion owner. Mare must be broke to lead and tie. Mare must be in good health and condition. Stallion owner may require health papers, Coggins, or culture. Stallion owner has the right to call a veterinarian when they deem it necessary at the mare owner’s expense. Stallion owner agrees to take proper care of the mare and foal at all times when in their care. Stallion owner may require mare owner to sign farm or ranch breeding contract.

9. All guarantees are between mare and stallion owner. The SDPHC is not responsible for any guarantees except for the following. If according to the mare owner, the mare does not settle on the first year of service, the mare owner may return that mare or a substitute mare for a return service the following year only. This guarantee is only good for two years from date of purchase of stallion service at the SDPHC stallion auction. If you have a nominated mare that has a lethal white or dead foal the mare owner is to supply vet certificate and picture to futurity chairperson and stallion owner to qualify to remain in the futurity for the following year. All mares must be nominated by FEBRUARY 1ST of their first year of eligibility whether they are open or in foal. Failure to comply with this will result in disqualification in the following year. Mare owners must be a current paid up member in good standing of the SD Paint Horse Club.

10. Stallion Service fee from Stallion Auction will remain with the year purchased, but foal will be moved to its year of eligibility. Only registered Paint, Quarter or Thoroughbred mares (with a number) will be accepted by the committee for nomination in the Select Halter Futurity. Persons wanting to breed other than APHA, AQHA, or TB mares must seek approval from the stallion owner. Resulting foals will not be eligible for the Select Futurity. If a stallion fee must be returned (death or infertility of stallion) the money will be refunded from the appropriate Select Futurity CD not from the general fund.

11. Breeding Stock foals with at least one Paint parent and colored foals will be shown together in the Select Futurity. Classes will be divided according to sex. Weanling geldings will be shown with weanling stallions.

12. The Select Futurity classes will be judged separately. The classes will be split by age based on a floating date to be established by the Futurity chairperson after all reports have been received. Eligible entries will not be required to enter the regular halter classes or the regular futurity classes. Each class will leave the show ring after being judged and placed and will re-enter to be re-judged in any corresponding futurity or open class.

13. Either owner or exhibitor MUST present ORIGINAL PAPERS for identity immediately prior to entering futurity class.

14. The number of payback placings will be determined by the total number of nominated horses. 5% of the Select Futurity Funds will be used to offset

Select Futurity expenses. 95% of payback money will be paid to contestants. (NOTE: This statement does not apply now because we have a floating birth date for the weanling futurities. If less than four (4) entries in futurity, the futurity chairperson and committee and /or Board of Directors will determine payback percentage.) A deadline of Aug 1 has been established for reporting sex and types (Paint or Breeding stock) of foal to the futurity chairperson. This is to help facilitate the figuring of the percentage of paybacks the day of the show. Any nominated but unreported as of futurity show time will be divided equally between the select futurity classes to determine the final payback percentages.
